North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) Course

Whether you're new to owning a firearm or have had a gun for home defense for years, getting a concealed handgun permit may seem daunting. It doesn't have to be!

There are many reasons and ways to carry a concealed weapon, but the first step is knowing North Carolina's concealed carry laws. This course will satisfy the education requirement necessary to apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit in North Carolina. 

The state of North Carolina requires students to complete a live fire exercise to obtain your permit. Your instructor will provide detailed information about the live fire portion of this course upon registration.

We will cover state-mandated important topics such as:

• Carrying Concealed Safety Issues
• Presentation Techniques
• Cleaning and Maintenance
• Ammunition

This course is a complete guide to understanding the basics of firearms ownership, safety, and common terms, and how it applies to home- or self-defense. After this class, students will feel confident to act as their family’s first line of defense in the event of a home invasion or other critical incident.

STATE REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN PERMIT

EDUCATION

• Prior to applying for your permit, you must successfully complete an approved firearms safety and training course that involves the actual firing of handguns and instruction in the laws of North Carolina governing the carrying of a concealed handgun and the use of deadly force (this course satisfies that requirement.)

FEES

• Initial Application | $80.00 (license is valid for five years)
• Renewal Application | $75.00
• Duplicate/Replacement | $15.00
• Fingerprint Fee | (up to) $10.00

DOCUMENTATION

• Visit your local sheriff's office and complete the application under oath. You will need the following documents:
• The original certificate of completion from a firearms course
• North Carolina driver’s license or ID card and proof of residence
• The sheriff will take two sets of fingerprints.
• Sign a release authorizing disclosure to the sheriff of any records relating to your mental health.
