Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) Course

This course is designed to prepare you to obtain a Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL). Completion of this course ensures that you leave with the knowledge and skills needed for responsible firearm use and possession.

Carrying a concealed weapon requires that you prepare yourself with the confidence and skills necessary for responsible firearm ownership. Our USCCA-Certified Instructors will provide knowledgeable instruction to ensure your safety and preparedness in real-world situations.

In this class we will cover:

  • Developing a Personal and Home Protection Plan
  • Self-Defense Firearms Basics
  • Shooting Fundamentals
  • Gear and Gadgets
  • The Legal Use of Force
  • Violent Encounters and the Aftermath
  • Basic and Advanced Skills

Additionally, we will discuss tips for personal safety, physiological reactions to violent encounters, and handgun safety, fundamentals, operation, and selection.

Please note that the state of Michigan requires an additional live-fire course in order to obtain your CPL. Your instructor will provide detailed information about the live fire portion of this course upon registration.


STATE REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN PERMIT

EDUCATION

  • Complete the required pistol safety training course (completing this class qualifies.)

LIVE FIRE

A live-fire requirement course is required for all new applicants and license holders that have expired for longer than one year.

Pass basic pistol safety training assessment course of fire. The course requirements are as follows:

  • The target for assessment of Section XI. B. is blank target that measures 25 1⁄2 inches long by 11inches wide (equivalent to stacking 3 - 11 inch x 8 1⁄2 inch letter size paper vertically on a target backer).
  • Distance from shooter to target – 4 Yards
  • Time Limit – None
  • Shooting Position – Shooter’s choice (Note: Range or other factors may limit choices)
  • Starting Position – Ready Position
  • Number of Rounds – Five (5)
  • On the command to fire, the shooter aims at the target and fires until all 5 rounds have been fired.
  • Scoring – (100%) all five (5) rounds must be within the confines of the paper (25½ inch by 11 inch boundary)
  • To successfully complete the range firing portion, the participant must complete the ‘on the command fire’ portion in 2 out of 3 attempts.

FEES

  • Initial Application | $100.00 plus $15 fingerprinting fee
  • Application Renewal | $115.00 | Must renew not more than six months before, nor one year after expiration.

DOCUMENTATION

  • File this application with the county clerk in the county in which he or she resides.
  • Include a certificate stating that the applicant has completed the required pistol safety training course (completing this class qualifies.)
  • Include a passport-quality photograph.
  • The applicant must have classifiable fingerprints taken by the county clerk, state police, sheriff’s office, local police agency, or other entity that provides fingerprinting services.
